Our inspiration and big dream for Tower Hamlets
Wise Mind Community Development CIC was inspired by a desire to address the educational, social, and wellbeing challenges faced by many families in Tower Hamlets. Through working closely with children, young people, parents, and local communities, we identified gaps in access to affordable educational support, personal development opportunities, and community wellbeing services.
We saw that many children and young people have tremendous potential but often face barriers such as educational disadvantage, poverty, social isolation, limited access to enrichment activities, and a lack of positive support networks. We also recognised the need to empower women, support families experiencing hardship, and create safe spaces where everyone can thrive.
Our vision is to build a stronger, more connected, and empowered community where every child, young person, and family has the opportunity to succeed regardless of their background or circumstances. Our long-term dream for Tower Hamlets is to see a thriving community where every individual is supported to reach their full potential.

How our outreach programmes make a difference
Our outreach programmes are designed to reach individuals and families who may not otherwise access support services due to financial barriers, lack of awareness, social isolation, or personal circumstances.
We work directly within the community to provide educational support, mentoring, wellbeing activities, family engagement programmes, and signposting to specialist services. By building trusted relationships, we help people gain confidence, develop new skills, improve their wellbeing, and access opportunities that can positively change their lives.
For example, a young person who is struggling academically and lacking confidence may join one of our tutoring and mentoring programmes. Through regular support, they can improve their educational attainment, build self-esteem, develop aspirations for the future, and become more engaged in school and community activities.
Similarly, a parent experiencing isolation or challenges at home may attend our wellbeing and support sessions, receiving the assistance they need.

The passionate people behind Wise Mind Community
Wise Mind Community Development CIC is led by Rouma Begum, an educator who is passionate about improving educational opportunities and supporting the wellbeing of children, young people, and families within the community.
Through her experience working with learners from diverse backgrounds, Rouma has witnessed the challenges many families face, including educational disadvantage, social isolation, financial hardship, and limited access to support services. These experiences inspired her to establish Wise Mind Community Development CIC to help create positive and lasting change.
What drives the organisation is a strong belief that every child and family deserves access to opportunities that enable them to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances. The team and volunteers supporting Wise Mind Community share a commitment to empowering individuals through education, mentoring, community engagement, and wellbeing support. Their dedication comes from seeing the real difference they make.
"Wise Mind Community has been a beacon of hope for my family. The support and guidance we received transformed my child's confidence and academic performance."
